After all, if something goes wrong with your vehicle, your whole road trip could be ruined.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important that you not only get your bags packed but that you also get your car ready to go.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know it can be tricky to remember all the things that need done, so in hopes of helping you avoid that \u2018<em>I think I forgot to do something<\/em>\u2019 feeling, I\u2019ve made sure to include anything and everything I could think of needed to get your car ready for a road trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, a free checklist for you so you can be extra sure you remember everything before you hit the road!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This post may contain affiliate links, which means I\u2019ll receive a commission if you purchase through my links, at no extra cost to you. Here&#8217;s how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Get an Oil Change<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget about an oil change! If you\u2019re due for one or will be driving enough miles on your trip that you <em>will <\/em>need one, go ahead and get it before you leave for your trip.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsure? Just head to Google maps and figure out how many miles you will be driving on your trip. Round up a little in case you do any extra driving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are 1,000 miles from needing an oil change and you\u2019ll be driving 1,200 miles on your trip, it\u2019s probably best to go ahead and get the oil change out of the way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check all fluids<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m no vehicle expert. Quite the opposite, actually, but I have learned that there are a few things I always need to check so that my car can function at its best, especially on long drives. It\u2019s important to make sure all fluids are filled up to the level they need to be.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what the check:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anti-freeze\/coolant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Windshield wiper fluid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brake fluid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Power steering fluid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transmission fluid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popularmechanics.com\/cars\/a25986\/check-fluids-oil-car\/\">This article<\/a> does a great job of explaining the 6 essential fluids, why they\u2019re important, and <strong>exactly how to check them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Out Your TIres<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This one\u2019s pretty simple, just make sure you do a quick check over all of your tires to ensure there aren\u2019t any holes or punctures in them. It\u2019s also a good idea to air them up to the proper PSI.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You definitely don\u2019t want to find yourself 100 miles into your trip with a flat tire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Headlights and Turn Signals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another important thing to check is that all your lights\/turn signals are working properly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Windshield Wiper Blades<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is something that I am guilty of overlooking almost every time. But this is important in case you have to drive in the rain or snow, or even if you just hit a bunch of bugs while drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crappy windshield wipers make it so much harder to drive and increase the risk of having an accident. So trust me- check these.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check your Registration &amp; Insurance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure they&#8217;re up to date, and keep them in the glove box!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fill up your gas tank<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Making sure your tank is full of gas <em>before <\/em>you start the trip allows you to get on the road quickly when it&#8217;s time to go. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Road trip tip: use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gasbuddy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GasBuddy app<\/a> to check for the cheapest gas near you to save yourself money on your road trip! Here&#8217;s what to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clean Out Your Car<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A road trip is much easier to enjoy if you aren\u2019t constantly having to look at the mess in your car. At the very least, it\u2019s good to clean out any trash and wipe up any spills or messes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want your car to be extra clean for the trip, <strong>here\u2019s a quick checklist<\/strong>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clean out any trash<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean up any spills or messes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean all windows<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean the interior (dash, doors, any trim)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vacuum up all dirt or debris<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make it smell good&nbsp; (If you\u2019re spending multiple days in the car, you probably want it to smell good, right? Get an air freshener you love.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash the exterior<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>BONUS:<\/strong> After washing the exterior, <a href=\"https:\/\/shopstyle.it\/l\/bHna3\">put some Rain X<\/a> on the windshield to help you out in any rainy weather you may run into on your trip. Trust me- this stuff helps a ton.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stock Up Anything You Might Need<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re going to be spending a lot of time in your car, you\u2019ll want to make sure you have everything you could need right there near you. After many road trips, I have come up with a list of things I have always found to be useful to have with me.&nbsp; Here are a few things you may wanna grab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have also added links to some items that may work best for travel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/shopstyle.it\/l\/bHnb0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wet wipes<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paper towels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+--I8R8Lu55kVkQsZE_NvFw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kleenex<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+84vXm1yVFNP5sYsJG7HTvw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hand sanitizer<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+KgPcDClzlzxw4xhlowIx9Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hair ties<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extra Sunglasses (just in case)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+Evdaljhu-0EbJ6yVEUY8_A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blanket<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+An5I4ueArVz_z0OfKFuR6w\">Travel pillow<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comfy hoodie or jacket<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+zBwvlOilkhCXJA2bijVs-Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Car phone charger<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+zKb6jxDOurU0EZSvuRvc7A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aux cord<\/a> (if your car doesn&#8217;t have bluetooth)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+YrEaRFfX9es7UVQg76VynA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trash can or bag<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+YM95MOD4p0gyQyn6ybI-Pw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">An atlas or map<\/a> (yeah, it\u2019s the 21st century, but there are still places where you may not be able to get service and therefore need a backup map.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any medicines you may need (Ibuprofen, Tylenol, allergy meds, Imodium, Dramamine, etc.) stored in a compact holder like <a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+KtsDpXFsszYGc1TJBMdQWg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this one<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+Um3hGl2CWFI389IUIxOolw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A first aid kit<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+CgzzmhUby98dVm1Dv_KCEQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lotion<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+zouztBhIdVGj-IGdDyk-iA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chapstick<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+aT9E7jLBcwXwNfL52fkOoA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cell phone mount <\/a>(not necessary, but helpful if you\u2019ll be looking at maps while driving) I linked the one we use that we highly recommend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+EfdhDDkvZGxTBFZb3Vq80Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Umbrella<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+1nkQMRzJ_MZR0_kQNiWu6w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reusable utensil set<\/a> with straw<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+BcBRynqaxhN5QN3ovtWCfQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reusable mug or cup<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplygum.com\/collections\/organic-cane-sugar-sweetened-gum\/products\/wintergreengum\">Gum<\/a> or mints<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+Iv70BYA69JLqeMwUkTasjQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lint roller<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+BtVVgCyt8NwNC21z1jpVWg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sunscreen<\/a> (Yes, it\u2019s totally possible to get a sunburn while in the car.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+uDwqjKB7ZHvsUI62dRcT-Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reusable grocery bag <\/a>(In case you need to run into the store real quick.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+uY2FOAEKMnfokb_jre5qxw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cooler with snacks <\/a>(This is a great way to save money on your road trip and keep yourself from getting hangry on those long travel days.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+wwNRfYUl60aA32Bod2xmKw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A comfy rug<\/a> (Okay this one is totally a luxury item and definitely not necessary, but putting a soft rug down in the passenger&#8217;s floorboard is a game changer for long drives.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A few precautionary things to pack for your road trip- <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tire essentials (jack, spare tire, tire gauge, etc)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One thing we have found extremely helpful and worth the cost is a portable air compressor for tires. This has saved us countless times when the tires have gotten a little low. The one we have is no longer made, <a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+rok4G2llMvCMbJrINczw7w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">but this one<\/a> is similar and has good reviews.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Car\u2019s Manual\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It\u2019s always a good idea to have this on hand in case you need it!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some spare cash and change\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is great to have in your car as a back up, just in case you hit a cash-only toll booth or end up somewhere where you can\u2019t use your credit card.
